The Delhi high court asked the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to file a detailed report about 180 protected monuments in the capital along with the steps taken by the expert body to preserve them. The direction came from a division bench of Chief Justice B.C. Patel and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, which directed the ASI to file an affidavit about the actual position of monuments protected under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. Observing that heritage should not be lost on account of lack of funds, the bench sought to know from the Centre the measures taken to strengthen the ASI.
