CPCB orders closure of 12 Panipat units

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has ordered closure of 12 industrial units, including handloom units and automobile showrooms, in the district for violating the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. It has also served showcause notices on five industrial units for the same reason. In May and June, teams of the CPCB and the Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) had raided 126 industrial units in the district. They took samples from effluent-treatment plants and put them to test. Some tests failed and hence, the action against 12 units. The CPCB has directed the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) to disconnect power connections of these units. The units will not be allowed to resume operations till permission is obtained from the CPCB. The erring units are SSA International in Bhodwal Majri village; Shakumbhara Spinners on Risalu road; Sachdeva Home Furnishing and Sarva India Home Furnishing in Kurar village; Raghav Woolen Mill in Nimbri village; Jindal Spinning Mill, Anil Spinners and DRC Woolen Mill in Industrial Area; Harisons Automobile in Sector 25; Polylon Fabric in Pasina village; and Chirag Textile in Sector 25. The five units that have served notices are Vardhman Yarn, Unik Processes, Gargee Weaving Mill in Industrial Area, GRM Overseas near Naultha village and Swan Motors near a toll plaza in Panipat.
