The Left Front has suffered a big jolt in panchayat elections in West Bengal. CPM's defeat in Nandigram and Singur at the hands of Trinamool Congress has proved that the people will not tolerate oppressive policies. Trinamool Congress has won all the four seats of district council of Nandigram. The party has also occupied the three seats of Singur in Hoogli district. Earlier, these seats were under CPM. Nandigram comes under Madinipur district. Though CPM had spent a lot of money in campaigning and used all the methods to win the election but all went in vain. It is said the CPM adopted non-democratic methods to win the elections but the electorate knew it well and rejected them outright. Base of Naxalism, Maoism and Communism is terror. Whether it is Russia or China or West Bengal the way of their policies is the same. On the issue of Special Economic Zone, the common people of Nandigram and Singur went through a difficult period. There is difference in saying and doing of CPM and other Left parties. The public of Nandigram and Singur has exposed their truth. The Leftists who represent the have nots first fulfill their desires. They don't care about the country's and society interest. Several examples including nuclear deal are in front of the public. Even the marginal farmers were not spared in Nandigram and Singur. The real face of Marxism has now emerged before the public which raises a question on the credibility of the party. They can become hurdles in the progress of the country. The public of Nandigram and Singur have given a befitting reply to them. Leftists suffered defeat in Hugli, Madinipur, Murshidabad, South 24 Pargana and North Dinazpur. The CPM needs to learn lessons from Nandigram and Singur defeats.
