More than 100 trees have been cut done by the CPWD to widen Aruna Asaf Ali Road, that leads to Jawarharlal Nehru University for the South Delhi area of Vasant Kunj. The road is being broadened with a divider in between the two lanes. Ironically, the bulldozing is taking place when the city Government has decided to plant about 7,35,000 saplings next month as part of an annual pre-monsoon drive. Environmentalists complain that trees are the first victims of development projects.
