CRZ axe hammers 17 structures in South

A railway holiday home and a tourism office were amongst the 17 structures demolished as part of the CRZ operation along the Colva coast. Sixteen other structures got temporary respite after the owners either obtained stay orders or the structures were left untouched after matter was found sub-judice. A portion of the railway holiday home under construction was razed by the demolition squad headed by Deputy Collector Sanjeev Desai, who mobilised earth moving machinery and manpower to demolish the structures as per the High Court directions. The balance portion of the holiday home was saved after the railway authorities got a stay order on the demolition. Elsewhere, the squad razed a structured owned by the Tourism Department, housing the electricity office and the tourist police. The axe fell on the structure used as a barrack by the tourist police after the personal belongings of the personnel were moved to a safe place. However, other structures of the Tourism Department got a respite after it was found that the matter concerning them was sub-judice. Deputy Collector Sanjeev Desai told newsmen that a total of 33 structures were fixed for demolition, but the number came down to 17 following stay orders obtained by the parties from competent authorities. Sources in the know say the Director of Fisheries and others obtained stay orders against the ongoing demolition exercise. Incidentally, some of the structures were partly demolished by the parties and the balance portion by the demolition squad.
