Culling begins at Bishalgarh

AGARTALA: The Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) have launched full-scale culling at Ladilak and its adjacent villages in Bishalgarh subdivision in Tripura today. As of now, over 1,000 chicks and ducks were culled at 11 designated places across the subdivision, said Ashudev Das, SDM (Bishalgarh) here on Sunday. He said that officials of administration and ARDD are monitoring the culling operation. As per plan chalked out by the administration, about 35, 000 chicks and ducks will be culled during the five-day culling operation, he said adding that thereafter mopping up operation would be also carried out. Meanwhile, RRTs have intensified culling operation in Mohanpur and Hezamura blocks in Sadar subdivision. According to official sources, over 13, 000 chicks, birds and ducks were culled in the last three days in different affected villages of Sadar subdivision in West Tripura district. The culling operation will continue for next two or three days, said Shyamal Banik, Joint Director of ARDD. Scare of bird flu looms large at Ranir Bazar following mysterious death of over 900 chicks and ducks at Devinagar poultry farm. He said, blood samples collected from the poultry farms have already been sent to Bhopal-based High Security Animal Disease for testing.
