IN a bid to explore new ways of promoting tourism here, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) has come out with a novel proposal to implement "Cycle Tourism" among children. According to sources, the TD has tied up with a private bicycle manufacturing company to introduce the scheme in the coming days to attract the touring kids. Under the scheme, bicycles in different sizes to suit the kids of different ages would be placed at TD outlets like Boat House and TD hotels here and they would be rented out to the children. The kids who hire the bicycles from one TTDC outlet can hand them over to another TTDC outlet, after they finish their trip going round the town and the tourist spots. Sources maintain that this novel scheme to promote tourism is expected to be a hit among the kids who come here in large numbers during summer and other holidays. Cy cling would also give them good physical exercise and give them different experience. Though the date of launch and the rent for hiring, are yet to be finalized, 15 bicycles meant for this have already arrived here. Sources say that this scheme would be launched sometime this week itself.
