CYG team to plant 25,000 saplings

To commemorate the World Environment Day on June 5, Commonwealth Youth Games Pune 2008 is planning to host nature conservation activities. "With growing concerns over global warming and depleting green cover, the aim is to enhance public attention and action about nature conservation and environmentalprotection,'said a press release. On June 5 the city would witness a Tree plantation drive where 25000 saplings will be planted at Vetal Tekdi, Paud Road. The plantation drive will commence at 7.30 in the morning in the presence of mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale, along with Lt. Gen. Ashok Kapur, ADG, CYG Pune '08 & several dignitaries. The tree plantation is being undertaken by the CYG Team in association with the forest department, Pune division and the Pune Municipal Corporation. Following the tree plantation, 250 students from Bhartiya Vidyapeeth college along with Commonwealth Youth Games Team, members of the Pathanjali Institute and the general public would gather near the Mula river near deccan Stand to clean the river bed. The event will commence at 10 a.m. and would continue till 1 p.m.
