Asia's largest freshwater Dal Lake in Srinagar is shrinking due to siltation, increased urbanisation and polluted inflow from peripheral areas. The Environment and Forests Minister, Mr T R Baalu, told the Rajya Sabha that the Central assistance of Rs 102.45 crore had been provided to the Jammu and Kashmir Government for the conservation of the lake which draws tourists.
