The Government had recently made an effort to distribute land to Dalits in rural areas of Madhya Pradesh. However, this has not brought an end to their woes. They now face a new battle against rich farmers. Distribution of pattas has been done in a lacklustre manner and in a number of cases the Government has simply failed to give the actual possession of land to the beneficiaries. Often the litigations, following the clash of interests on the distributed land, have led to new forms of oppression against the Dalits.
