The proposed construction of a dam across Siruvani River in Attapady Valley in Kerala will have an impact on Tamil Nadu with regard to irrigation, drinking water supply and hydropower generation, if the Kerala Government harnessed any excess quantum of water in the Bhavani basin against the stipulated entitlement to be made in the final verdict on water sharing dispute, said K. Ranganathan, Chief Engineer of Water Resource Organisation of Public Works Department of Tamil Nadu.
Mr. Ranganathan, in a statement issued here on Monday, has denied the contents attributed to him in the report, “AVIP will not affect water supply to Coimbatore”
He said that the contents in the report on the post project impact on Tamil Nadu were not expressed by him over phone as reported.
The final entitlement for Kerala in the Bhavani basin has not yet been decided since the final judgment of the Supreme Court as well as the final gazette notification of the judgement was also awaited, he added.
