Notwithstanding a Supreme Court nod, an upcoming hotel in south Delhi has come under fire from environmentalists who claim that it is encroaching upon the city's green lungs - the southern ridge. The Delhi Development Authority's proposal of acquiring 315 hectares of the southern ridge for the international hotel complex was stayed by the Supreme Court in September 1996. The court modified its own judgement a year later and released 92 hectares for commercial use.
