Party in the dock for accepting donation from Dow Chemical BHOPAL: The Leader of Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Jamuna Devi, has written to the Election Commission asking that Bharatiya Janata Party be de-recognised because it had accepted donation from Dow Chemical International Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Dow Chemical that now owns Union Carbide, which was responsible for the 1984 Bhopal gas disaster. Asked whether the BJP had accepted donation from an American company or its Indian subsidiary, she told media persons that her representation to the Election Commission asking that the BJP be de-recognised was based on available information and the advice of senior Supreme Court advocate Vivek Tankha. Copies circulated Ms. Jamuna Devi circulated copies of Form 24A filed with the Election Commission by the BJP to furnish a return of the party's income for the financial year 2006-07. Ltd, with its office located at Corporate Park, Unit No. 1, V.N. Purav Marg, Mumbai' a sum of Rs. 1,00,000 through Citibank's Mumbai branch.
