What happens when a national bird dies in a panjrapol? Surely, the forest officials are called in, police is informed about the death and the peacock is buried wrapped with a cloth. However, the case was different when a peacock died in Odhav Jeevdaya Panjrapol on Thursday. It was kept with 10 dead ducks - apparently to be disposed of in a garbage truck that visits the place everyday and dumps the carcasses near Pirana. When a social worker brought the issue to trustee's notice, they realised their mistake. According to Harshad Patel, a social worker from Amraiwadi, he was passing from near Odhav and went to panjrapol to inquire about cows that were fed by citizens in the area. To his shock, he found a dead peacock on the floor, a string tied around its neck and placed with carcasses of ten ducks in the backyard of the premises. He immediately informed trustees of the NGO. The trustees said it had died naturally. "Initially, the trustees were unwilling to listen, but later they informed forest officials,' said Patel. Finally, forest officials were roped in and the bird was given a decent burial.
