Deadlock over auto emission norms to continue

  • 07/05/1999

The deadlock, being faced by the auto industry, following the Supreme Court order on auto emission norms in the national capital region (NCR) is likely to continue as the government and the auto manufacturers association are not yet clear on the strategy to deal with the situation. The meeting of the emission norms comittee under the Union surface transport ministry on Friday remained inconclusive as the Association of Indian Automobile Manufacturers(AIAM) could not present a united viewpoint. The opinion was sharply divided between the new and old players as well as between the diesel and the petrol lobbies.
