Though cutting of trees around the Kathmandu Valley seemed to have decreased in the recent years, forests in other parts of Nepal are still disappearing, claims Prof. Masahiko Ohsawa of Chiba University, Japan. "In between ten years from 1977 to 1987, trees at Khandbari village simply disappeared," he pointed out while addressing an interaction programme on "Himalayan Ecology in Nepal."
