Study : A new study on destruction of the world's forests has found that between 1980 and 1995 alone, at least two million square kilometres of forests, constituting an area larger than Mexico, were destroyed. It has blamed the dramatically increasing demand for paper and other wood products, coupled with corruption, illegal felling of tress and industrial burning of thousands of hectares for quick profits, for this state of affairs. The study was conducted by Ms Janet Abramovitz, titled "Taking a Stand : Cultivating a New Relationship with the World's Forests", was released earlier in April in the US.
