Just having good forest wealth is not sufficient. What a state or a union territory is doing to protect it will determine how rich it will be in terms of green wealth in future.A report by independent researchers, based on data interpolated from the government statistics, shows that the green wealth index of Punjab stands at a dismal 0.048. However, with the greenery protection index (GPI) of just 0.010, the state is making very little efforts to protect what it has. Interestingly, Haryana is at the bottom of the list with the GWI of 0.033. However, as far as protecting its forest wealth is concerned, with the GPI of 0.114, it is doing much better than Punjab.Chandigarh with the GWI of 0.224 and the GPI of 0.685 is maintaining its forest health well. Incidentally, Delhi, with the GWI of 0.059 is doing well to protect its green cover. Its GPI stands at 0.649.
