With the government all set to expand programmes under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) across the country from Tuesday, an independent assessment study released on Monday has said that hyped rural development programme is witnessing a dip in demand. A study conducted by Centre for Science & Environment (CSE) has stated that the government has failed to articulate the development potential of NREGA. "Instead of implementing and evaluating the act purely in terms of employment creation, the focus should have been on the real impacts on local development,' CSE study said.
