Total number of cases so far 63 NEW DELHI: Three new dengue cases were reported in the Capital on Tuesday taking the total number of cases so far this season to 63. Admitting the seriousness of the situation, Deputy Leader of MCD House Ved Prakash Gupta said: "The possibility of spread of dengue has increased this year because of increased mosquito breeding compared with last year. Most colonies have recorded high-density mosquito breeding.' "The early arrival of the monsoon and intermittent rain since April-end has resulted in conducive breeding conditions for mosquitoes,' he added. Keeping in view the growing number of dengue cases, the civic body on Tuesday also started a drive at its own Town Hall headquarters to drain out water from all desert coolers installed in its offices to prevent mosquito breeding. In addition, the civic body is planning to begin fogging operations in areas where dengue cases have been reported. An MCD official said: "Usually the number of dengue cases peaks around October. However, the steady increase in the number of cases now is a cause for concern. Going by the trend, the number of cases is expected to rise in the future.' Meanwhile, Mr. Gupta had announced on Monday that the civic body would ensure maintenance of regular supply of blood platelets at MCD hospitals and continue to monitor the situation over the next two months. He also directed the heads of the health, environment management services, engineering and horticulture departments to ensure co-ordination to achieve optimal results from the sanitation-cum-cleanliness drive launched by the MCD from Monday.
