Hyderabad, Aug. 3: As many as three suspected cases of dengue have been reported from Kukatpally in two weeks. Citizens residing in Borabanda, Ameerpet, Malkajgiri, Uppal, Singareni colony and Saroornagar have been lodging complaints against the mosquito menace in their regions. At least 264 cases of malaria have been reported at government hospitals alone in the last four months. Enquiries have revealed that the issue is acute in Kukatpally areas as the health and sanitation wing of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation failed to take up door-to-door anti-larval operations despite instructions. With suspected cases of dengue and positive cases of malaria being reported from Kukatpally, GHMC additional commissioner (health/sanitation), Mr R. Rama Mohan Rao enquired into the functioning of the medical and health staff in Kukatpally municipality circle and found lapses on the part of officials. Based on the enquiry, the entire team, which was in charge of the anti-mosquito operations, has been replaced, said Mr Rama Mohan Rao. "The GHMC commissioner, Dr C.V.S.K. Sarma, is reviewing the situation every Monday, and I am doing it on Fridays besides inspecting the affected areas every day," he added. The GHMC chief medical officer of health, Dr M. Jayaram, told this correspondent that 684 teams have been pressed into service take up door-door anti larval operations in Kukatpally alone. However, complaints from other localities are still being looked into. According to Dr Jayaram, the situation is under control as anti-larval operations and fogging has been intensified in most parts of the city. "We have been able to cover almost all the houses in Kukatpally area and bring the situation under control. During our door-to-door visits, we are requesting citizens to use mosquito repellents and mosquito nets and to ensure that water is not stagnant in abandoned utensils, tyres, tubes or any other items within the premises," he added.
