The number of dengue cases in the capital crossed the 600-mark over the Gandhi JayantiId-ul-Fitar break. Dengue cases soared up to 639. Meanwhile, a large number of domestic breeding checkers (DBCs) are back on duty, though some issues are yet to be sorted out.
Municipal health officer N.K. Yadav said the number of cases crossed the 600-mark to reach 617 on Thursday, while 22 fresh cases were reported on Friday. The number of cases reported from Shahdara (north), Civil Lines and Najafgarh were higher compared to other zones, he said. The municipal officials now hope that with humid weather likely to give way to winter season, mosquito breeding will reduce and in turn the number of dengue cases will come down. So far, there have been two dengue deaths n the capital.
Meanwhile, early this week, a compromise was worked out between the striking DBCs and the MCD. They have been assured that their demands will be considered. However, they were clearly told that they could not be regularised.
Health committee chairman V.K. Monga said that the total attendance of DBCs was 1,900 on Wednesday.
