Dengue death toll rises to 8 in MP

With the death of a Shajapur district-resident girl at a private hospital in Indore, the total number of dengue deaths in the Madhya Pradesh raised to eight in a month. ''Dengue symptoms were detected five days back in Class XII student Rukhsaar (17) who died yesterday,'' State Health Director Ashok Sharma said here today. Samples of 87 dengue suspects were taken in which 47 tested positive. All these victims were recovered well and returned to their homes after getting treatment from different hospitals of the state. ''After swine flu came to fore, samples of 84 suspects have been sent to Delhi and Pune as a precautionary measure,'' he said, adding that reports of 45 suspects were yet to be received. Dr Sharma said that swine flu virus was found in three people here and one in Indore but all of them were recovered. However, people - who were in contact - with the victims were also tested and no symptom were detected in them. ''There is nothing to concern over swine flu in the state and the state government has adopted several steps to combat it,'' he said. Besides, providing facility of swine flu test in all the medical colleges, medicines were also provided to the district hospitals. Awareness programmes were also carried out in this direction, he added.
