Dengue fever cases rising in Palakkad district

One confirmed, nine suspected dengue cases Nine suspected cases of dengue fever and one confirmed case were reported from the district on Friday. One case of dengue fever was confirmed from Mathur village near Palakkad. Nine suspected cases were reported from Vadakkumcherry, Pudussery, Elappully, Katampazhipuram, Pallasena, Pirayiri, Nemma, and Vandazhy, District Medical Officer K. Venugopal said. He said there were three cases of typhoid reported from Muthuthala, Pudussery, and Pallasena. Dr. Venugopal said that 104 patients were admitted in different hospitals on Friday with fever. As many as 1,914 were given treatment for fever in the outpatient wing of government hospitals in the district, he said. In Malappuram District Medical Officer V. Ummer Farook has called upon the public to be vigilant against outbreak of epidemics, especially during the monsoon. “Health education is a must for instilling healthy behaviour among the people,” Dr. Farook said while inaugurating a students’ collective against monsoon diseases here on Friday. Health awareness programmes are being conducted in all schools in the district under the joint auspices of the Health and Education departments. The authorities have roped in students to reach out to society at large with the message of careful and better health. T. Mohammed, headmaster, MMET High School, Melmuri, presided over the function. V.M. Damodaran, senior Ayurveda medical officer, and C.K. Suresh Kumar, technical assistant, made a presentation on ‘monsoon diseases and their remedies.’ Deputy mass media officer K.P. Sadik Ali, deputy headmaster P.P. Majeed, and Sindhu Sundar spoke. Students took an oath as part of the awareness programme. Three cases of typhoid also reported DMO calls for vigil against monsoon diseases
