The Forest Department and the Kamrup district administration appear to be oblivious of the fact that not very far from the madding crowd of Guwahati city, but well within the greater Guwahati area, lie the deep forest forest ranges of Amseng Hills reserved forest, Amseng South reserve forest and Khanapara reserve forest covering a total area of 7,864 hectares, and that they happen to be the home of a whole range of exotic animals and birds, thanks to the density of the forest cover.
