Bringing cheer to the farmers in the district, the Devadula lift irrigation project authorities on Sunday succeeded in releasing the water into the Dharmasagar reservoir near here. The release of water into the Dharmasagar this time is really a big success for the authorities as there were no hiccups in the entire stretch of pipeline from the main intake well at Gangaram to the Dharmasagar reservoir, which is 132 kilometres away. "It is a major success for the project, as the water lifted at the main intake well at Gangaram and was directly released into the Dharmasagar reservoir. All the three pumping stations at Gangaram, Bheem Ghanpur, and Pulukurthy worked simultaneously," said Mr Rakshit, the project in-charge. He visited the Dharmasagar along with the executive engineer Ganapathi Rao and reviewed the water release into the reservoir. He said that there were no problems in the release of water from the main intake well and all the pumping stations worked efficiently thus making it possible for the speedy lifting of the water. Mr Rakshit stated that this was one of important milestones in the project as this particular trial run proved a complete success. The failure of the last trial run, which witnessed a major leakage, has resulted in the shifting of senior engineers and the suspension of one engineer. After that the water levels in the Godavari at the main intake well got reduced thus halting the trial run efforts. As the water levels in Godavari crossed 71 metres, the authorities have again taken up the trial run and succeeded. With the successful trial run, it is hoped that it would be possible for the government to supply the water for the kharif season as promised. The minister for major irrigation, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, who is scheduled to take part in the Rythu Rally on Monday, is also planning to begin his farmers rally from the Dharmasagar reservoir.
