At a district-level meeting of officials and representatives of different departments presided over by Gautam Ganguly, Deputy Commissioner, Cachar, at the Conference Hall, implementation of various schemes and projects came up for threadbare discussion. It was made known that the Agriculture Department would make available power pumps to the beneficiaries at 50 per cent subsidised rate. It was revealed that for improvement of the Silchar-Kalain road, Rs 6 crore has been allotted. The Deputy Commissioner laid stress on immediate repair and improvement of this road, now in bad shape. The PWD department was advised to take steps for building ATM counters at the Development wing of the Deputy Commissioner establishment. The PHE Department pointed out that water supply to Silchar Medical College has been streamlined. Till date, 5,098 Kisan Credit Cards have been distributed. The IWT Department revealed that since last April, 18 ferry services at Annapurna Ghat have been resumed and two more boats have been put in service. The DTO shared the information at the meeting that till April 2008, Rs 31.89 lakh has been collected as entry tax from the Digarkhal MVI check gate, besides Rs 61.41 lakh as weigh tax. Violet Barua, SP, who was also present at the meeting assured all possible steps for proper implementation of developmental schemes and projects.
