Heavy erosion by the Dhansiri river within Golaghat district under Morongi Revenue Circle, has caused widespread devastation, damaging dwelling houses and properties mainly at Mitha Chapari, Panka areas where 140 families have been affected. The residents of the areas informed that the government and the district administration had done nothing for the protection of the people. Given the circumstances, local people had to erect stone spurs as a measure against erosion by the Dhansiri river. The people here have demanded of the district administration to take immediate measures for the protection of the lives and properties of the locals. Train service: The people of Golaghat town along with its neighbouring areas have demanded the Centre and the NF Railway Maligaon to arrange for diversion of at least three important trains through Golaghat in the greater interest of the people of Golaghat as well as the traders in general. It may be pertinent to mention here that the Tinsukia Guwahati trains passes through Furkating Junction which is 8 km away from the Golaghat. With Golaghat town being the head quarter and an important town in all respects, the public here have urged for trains through the town.
