Dharoi Dam 95 per cent full, AMC on alert

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) authorities are constantly monitoring the water level in Dharoi Dam, built on the Sabarmati river. The dam is now flowing at 182.90 m against its danger level of 192.25 m. Officials at the city control room said there was heavy inflow of water in the dam and top municipal officials have been put on alert. They said the dam has received 95 per cent water of its total capacity. The city on Thursday night and Friday received 2.49 cm of rainfall. In 2007, heavy rains in north Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan had led to flooding in Paldi, Vasna and several eastern parts of the city. Officials said heavy flooding then had also damaged the Sabarmati riverfront project. The showers had also caused flooding in Dholka and other nearby villages in the downstream of Sabarmati river.
