Diarrhoea Control Fortnight begins in Meghalaya

For spreading awareness on prevention and management of diarrhoea-related problems of children below the age of five, the Health and Family Welfare Department on Tuesday began the “Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight” at Ganesh Das Maternal and Child Health Hospital here. The programme has been organized in collaboration with the National Health Mission and the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills district. Speaking at the event, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, PW Ingty informed that the “Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight” (IDCF), is being observed with an aim to reduce child mortality caused due to diarrhea. The IDCF is an initiative of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. He stated that the fortnight, which is being observed in the State from 18 to 31st July, also seeks to help improve the health condition of infants and children. Earlier, HM Shangpliang, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department cum Mission Director, National Health Mission, in his address said that similar awareness programmes would be organized at hospitals and health centres across the State.
