Diarrhoea kills 28 in Patrapur

BERHAMPUR: Health officials are camping in remote villages in Patrapur block following detection of presence of Vibrio bacteria in blood samples of patients suffering from diarrhoea. As many as 28 persons, including eight children, have died of diarrhoea and hundreds affected by the disease in the block. Though health officials had checked the disease from spreading further, they had reportedly not taken any measures to prevent it. As a result, diarrhoea broke out again in villages of Turubudi panchayat and spread to the adjoining Sialilati panchayat. During last one week, four persons of Lanja village and two persons of Gandhari village died of the disease and over 50 persons have been affected. During blood tests of these patients, Vibrio bacteria was found. Meanwhile, more than 20 persons have been affected by dysentery in Chatrapur and nearby areas. On Sunday, three dysentery patients including two children were admitted to Chatrapur hospital. As condition of one of the child deteriorated, he had to be shifted to MKCG Medical.
