Miscreants felled about 100 fruit-bearing plants, including over 50 coconut saplings, at a farm in Vaddy-Merces. The incident, which is believed to have occurred in the wee hours of Friday, became known only in the morning when the daughters of the owner, Anthony Pereira, went to the farm. Though the exact reason behind the incident is not known, Mr Pereira and his family suspect that the incident could be linked to a tenants' association, of which Mr Pereira is the vice chairman. "I was not happy with the functioning of the association and the incident is probably the outcome of me expressing my unhappiness,' said Mr Pereira while disclosing that he has already submitted his resignation as vice chairman to the Mamlatdar after the incident. Mr Pereira informed that he had already availed a subsidy from the Agriculture Department three years ago and just when his saplings was about to bear fruits, the incident has left his dreams shattered. Meanwhile, the Mr Pereira's has lodged a police complaint with the Old Goa police and investigations are in progress.
