Diesel leak pollutes river at Paradip

As the pipeline of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) leaked near Bauriapalanda, hundreds of villagers, including children and women collected diesel from river water. Sources said there are three marketing depots of the IOCL, Bharat Petroleum Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Co Ltd (HPCL). The pipeline comes from the oil jetty to the oil terminal storage tank. But near the terminal storage tank, thousands of litres of diesel flowed into the nearby river water. The river water got polluted and aquatic animals died. On Tuesday morning, the villagers began collecting hundreds of litres of diesel from the river, the water of which is connected to the water reserve of the Paradip Port Trust. It was apprehended that the PPT drinking water reserve may be polluted by diesel. Even after 12 hours of the oil leakage, the IOCL authorities had not taken any step to plug the diesel leak.
