The Assam State Forest department will approach the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Planing Commission with a full-fledged forestry actin plan to avail adequate funds to face the challenge of forest protection and conservation in Assam. The expert committee on identification of forest areas, forced as per the directive of the Supreme Court way back in 1997, had suggested that adequate funds should be provided tooth Assam Government to undertake afforestation of the denuded forest areas.
