District judge visits tribal settlement

THRISSUR: Thrissur District and Sessions Judge and District Legal Services Authority chairman B Kemal Pasha on Wednesday visited and held hearing at the Anapantham Tribal Colony in Vellikulangara forest range in the district.
The hearing was following a directive of the High Court consequent on a writ petition filed by the Anapantham Advasi Samrakshana Samiti in connection with the rehabilitation of the tribesmen of the colony who are residing at temporary shelters at Sasthampoovam forest area.
After collecting information from officials of Vellikulangara forest range officials, the judge visited the tribesmen residing in temporary shelters at Sasthampoovam and personally checked whether they are being provided with rice and other essential provisions required by them. The judge instructed the officials concerned to provide immediately ration cards to those who do not possess ration cards at present.
Later, the judge expressed satisfaction over the welfare measures being taken by the authorities to improve the lives of the colony members. He expressed hope that the tribesmen would be allocated land for their permanent settlement and rehabilitation after the completion of the ongoing clear felling in Sasthampoovam forest area.
RDO C V Sajan, Tribal Development Officer N Lalita, officials of the Forest and Health Departments had accompanied the judge during the visit.
