Officials remain sceptical of the Delhi government's exploration of means and ways for providing basic amenities in the soon to be regularised 1,500 unauthorised colonies. A rough estimate suggests that the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will take 100 years just to lay down sewers in all these colonies. The government has sought feedback from the DJB, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Development Authority on the existing infrastructure in these colonies. Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit is exploring how soon can the necessary infrastructure for basic services like sewage management, drinking water facilities and schools be provided in these colonies.
