The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is likely to be assigned with preparing the Detailed Project Report for the Chandigarh Metro Rail project. The Centre had suggested the names of three companies for the job including RITES, Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) and Urban Mass Transit Company. The corridors and other details of the project will be finalised in the DPR. Sources said the UT Administration has almost finalised the decision to rope in DMRC. The formal nod, however, is yet to be given. As far as collection of funds for the entire project is concerned, the UT Administration has planned to cash in on a number of sources. For instance, Parsvnath Developers has to pay the administration for construction of the IT Habitat. In all, developers are expected to pay the administration around Rs 200 crore in the next two years. The other sources of funds include the upcoming commercial belts in Sector 44, 51, 52 and various other parts of the city. The entire Metro Rail project is likely to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 crore.
