The Indian Council of Medical Research which is the apex body in the country for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research has so far only formulated draft guidelines. These draft guidelines have "strong recommended "that stem cell research and its clinical application should be promoted in the country, adding that it should be thoroughly examined before approving of any such research and application.
