The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has decided to utilise tons of domestic garbage and carcass of animals in a different way. The LMC in place of dumping garbage and carcass on the outskirts of the city will now use it for production of cooking gas. The task has been assigned to a city-based NGO. The decision was taken at a meeting held at the directorate of local bodies here on Thursday. According to the additional municipal commissioner AC Sinha, incineration of the domestic waste and carcass safely is a big problem. ''To solve the problem, the LMC decided to work on this new project, which will solve the perennial problem of such waste from the state capital,'' said Sinha. Giving details, he said that the task would be carried out by an NGO who had been working with the temples of the city. ''This organisation is successfully generating gas from flowers and other domestic waste after they are buried under the ground,'' said Sinha. Telling about the project, Sinha said that the LMC would provide land to the organisation. Later, after collecting the garbage and carcass, it will be dumped at the plant run by the organisation. According to Sinha, the best part of the project is that carcass of animals will be utilised in a safer way. Sinha said that after generating gas it would be distributed to industries and households. According to Sinha, gas extraction from waste will help in reducing the emission of green house gas besides utilisation and production of non-conventional energy.
