State Bank Governor(Pakistan) Dr Ishrat Husain asked the donor agencies to refrain from direct funding to social sector organisations for poverty reduction as they cannot go beyond certain limits without government sector support. He said that poverty in the country could not be reduced unless 6 percent growth rate was achieved. "I am very sorry to say that some donor agencies are providing direct funds to the social sector organisations, NGOs which do not have the capacity to go beyond certain limit in their poverty reduction drive," said Ishrat Husain while addressing a two-day conference on 'Lessons in Development the AKRSP experience' organised by Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) in collaboration with DFID and CIDA.
