Drastic dip in rainfall in Kodagu district

Rainfall in Kodagu has gone down by 50 per cent, thereby adversely hitting agricultural activities. Over the last two days, however, rains have picked up and brought a silver lining. Last year by June 3, River Cauvery was full and most of the waterfalls, including Abbey falls were gushing. Unfortunately, this monsoon, there has been no rainfall, which had filled Cauvery and as a result, Harangi reservoir, which usually gets filled by first rainfall, is still empty. When compared to last year, the minimum water-level has reached 26 ft. Kodagu usually records 804.3 mm rainfall every year by June end but this year Kodagu has received only 403.1 mm of rainfall till June 25. Last year during this time, 731.9 mm rainfall was recorded. It was 862.4 mm during 2007 and in 2006, it was 987.4 mm. There has been a drastic dip in the level of rainfall over the last 3 years.
