Drinking water aplenty in state

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said that the present government has augmented the supply of potable drinking water in 2,691 villages during the last three years. The government has also launched the Rs 206-crore Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water Supply Scheme to augment water supply in Mewat area of southern Haryana. Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone of a water supply scheme to be built at a cost of Rs 1.3 crore at Nangal village of Bhiwani, Hooda said the construction work of this water works would be completed by April 2009. It would supply 70 litres of water per day per person to the residents of Nangal village. He said that to ensure equitable distribution of water in the state, Bhakra Main Line Hansi-Butana multi-purpose link canal was being constructed at a cost of Rs 354 crore and Dadupur Nalvi Canal at a cost of Rs 267 crore. He said so far as many as over three lakh free water connections had been released to the families belonging to Scheduled Castes under the Indira Gandhi Potable Drinking Water Scheme.
