The Centre will provide 90 per cent of the expenditure, with an upper limit of Rs 25 lakh, for the rural drinking water supply schemes if the beneficiaries are prepared to contribute the remaining 10 per cent. The Union Minister of Rural Development, Mr Shanta Kumar, told at a press conference that the new scheme, christened "Swajaldhara", was essentially aimed at involving the people in the solution of their problems.
