Say no: Corporation officials distributing pamphlets to create awareness against use of plastic materials less than 20 microns on Kongu Main Road in Tirupur. Tirupur: The Corporation administration conducted a special drive on Monday to create awareness among traders against the use of plastic materials made of virgin or recycled plastic having thickness less than 20 microns. Sanitary inspectors distributed leaflets carrying messages about the ban imposed by the administration on littering of such materials in public places within the city limits, to tea stalls, bakeries, hotels and groceries. The traders and hoteliers were warned that stringent action would be taken against them if they were found storing the banned plastic items. All carry bags and containers made of recycled plastic and used for purposes other than storing and packaging food should be manufactured using pigments and colorants as per the norms set by the government. The officials told them that the garbage mixed with plastic waste when burnt would cause air pollution.
