Recent archaeological investigations and research undertaken by Gauhati University have brought about major changes in the political history of ancient Assam besides throwing new light on the social and cultural history of the NE region. This research on the "Art and Archaeology of the Doiyang-Dhansiri Valley of Assam from the pre-historic times to c.AD 1800" was carried out by Dr Hemendranath Dutta, Exploration Officer, Directorate of Archaeology, Assam for his doctoral thesis.
