Dyeing and bleaching units in Tirupur resumed operations on Monday after a weeklong stoppage of production. Some units were yet to commence production as workers were off to their native places, much ahead of Pongal, during the strike period. The units stopped production after the Madras High Court imposed a fine on them for polluting the Noyyal. Treasurer of the Dyers' Association of Tirupur (DAT) K. Natrayan told The Hindu that the committees formed by the DAT and the Tirupur Exporters' Association were yet to decide on the new charges based on the fine of six paise a litre of effluent discharged into the river.
