An Indian company buying a foreign company or a foreign company acquiring an Indian company should not inflate or deflate our pride -Jaskaran Singh Dhami We got puffed up with pride when Lakshmi Mittal made ripples in the business world by buying Arcelor. The tugging of 'Corus' by Tatas added some inches to the length our necks and these got more stiffened (of course with pride) when Jaguar Land Rover was also towed in by the same Tatas. Every such deal by our magnates has pampered our pride. How inflated, we Indians get when our business tycoons acquire big foreign companies but now many of us got deflated and our necks loosened a bit when the news about Ranbaxy's sell out to Japanese company Daiichi appeared in the media (literally a bolt from the blue). Ranbaxy is not the first company which has gone into foreign hands but it sent unprecedented shockwaves across the country, one, due to its popularity (almost a household name) and secondly because of the suddenness of the deal. Why do we forget that today we are living in a world which has shrunk and become a global village. The boundaries of countries hardly matter so far as business is concerned.
