Earthquakes in the Pacific region

TWO earthquakes occurred at a shallow depth in the Tonga and New Caledonia regions this morning. At 3:25am, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 kilometres in the Tonga region. The earthquake occurred 644.83 kilometres south-southwest from Tongatapu in Tonga and 1056.19km south-southeast from Suva. The Mineral Resources Department's Seismology Unit said it was a moderate size earthquake with shallow depth source location. It said such earthquake magnitude does not have the capability to trigger a regional threat base from historical data. At 4:25am, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 10km in the New Caledonia region. It occurred 678.15km east from Noumea in New Caledonia and 803.44km southwest from Suva.
