New Delhi: With elections slated this year-end and the BJP eying a comeback, East Delhi Municipal Corporation will not hike any taxes and parking rates. “Rather than burdening the public, the corporation should crack down on contractors illegally operating parking sites. At so many sites, the contractors are giving Rs 20 slip while the official rate is Rs 10. More parking sites also need to be developed,” standing committee chairman Mehak Singh said. EDMC has asked for a special grant package worth Rs 7,500 crore from Delhi Finance Commission for development work. “In every school, a retired Army or defence official will be employed to teach the kids how to defend themselves. They will be recruited on contract at a salary of Rs 10,000. CCTVs will be installed in schools. A provision of Rs 1 crore has been earmarked,” Singh added. TNN
