Effluent ghost haunts Tirupur farmers again

Level of Total Dissolved Solids has begun to surge Tirupur: Farmers on the banks of the River Noyyal, affected by the discharge of dyeing effluents for almost two decades till the Madras High Court ordered closure of all dyeing units in Tirupur cluster for violation of pollution norms, look worried again. The reason: Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) level has begun to surge in the River Noyyal after a brief lull following a January 28 court order. A P Kandasamy, president of the Noyyal River Ayacutdars Protection Association on whose petition the court ordered closure of dyeing units, said the matter of rising TDS level had been brought to the notice of C. Shanmugavelu, minister for industries, who held talks with farmers and dyers two days ago in Chennai.
